蘋果1噸iPhone可以提煉10盎司黃金
據國外媒體報導，911metalurgis網站稱，在為用戶維修iPhone時，蘋果通常會向用戶提出“整機回收”的要求，這樣做的原因除了iPhone機身內部零件不易拆卸外，還有一個重要的原因就是：1噸iPhone能夠提煉出9.27盎司黃金，這比很多優質金礦礦石的含金量要高。
Socialbarrel網站稱，一部iPhone 5手機包含著價值1.58美元的黃金、0.36美元的銀、0.12美元的銅、0.05美元的鋁、0.02美元的鉑，這樣看可能算不了什麼；但如果是500萬部iPhone 5，就會變成790萬美元黃金、180萬美元銀——iPhone 5發售首周就賣出了500萬部。
911metalurgist網站又做了進一步對比調查。從秘魯著名的Yanacocha Complex金礦開采的一噸礦石，採礦公司最終可以提煉出0.03盎司的黃金，而一噸iPhone可以提煉出9.72盎司黃金，兩者相差324倍。
從智利Escondida銅礦開采的一噸礦石，採礦公司最終可以提煉出21磅銅，而一噸iPhone可以提煉出283.5磅的銅，兩者相差13倍；從澳大利亞Cannington開採一噸銀礦，採礦公司最終可以提煉出的銀比一頓iPhone可以提煉出的銀少6.5倍；不過，從南非Bushveld Complex開採一噸鉑金礦，提煉出來的鉑比一頓iPhone提煉出來的比鉑多3.3倍。
然而，電子產品回收公司Cloud Blue CEO肯·拜耳（Ken Beyer)指出，並非只有iPhone手機的金屬含量高，其他電子產品的金屬含量平均都很高。
